Record Book Roundup

Record Book Roundup graphic4-H Council voted to move to the new 4-H Project Record Sheets published by Kansas 4-H.  These come in 2 options for each age group:  Animal Animal and General Projects.  These forms will be in your Record Books when they are returned to you.  If you did not turn in a Record Book, you will have a packet with your name on it.

These forms do come in 3 age brackets.  For County Champion Judging for 2022, the 3 age groups will be used.  Junior is 7-9 year olds, Intermediate is 10-13 year olds and Senior is 14 and over.

These forms are available online at https://www.kansas4-h.org/resources/awards-and-recognition/ProjectRecognition.html.

The ZBooks Online Record Keeping Software mentioned at the bottom of that page will be available to start using January 1st.  This will allow you to type AND SAVE your record sheets and permanent records online.  This means no more files not working on the new computer.  But, more about ZBooks in January.  Handwriting records remains perfectly acceptable.

For December, you should be writing goals for each project.  This is Section 1 for each age group and each type.  Good goals center around things you want to learn or to do.  You can control if you learn how to make a pie or attend a class on showmanship.  You can not control if you earn a purple ribbon at the fair.  Setting goals to learn more about your projects often leads to those purple ribbons.

Section 3 is on project learning experiences.  Make note of any of those you have already done.  Have you selected your market steer?  Did you try a new recipe for the holidays?  Writing down these items now will make it easy to add to the record sheets.

Parents, it might sound confusing that each age group has different forms.  But if you noticed above I mentioned section numbers, each section requires the same information.  This is true for both the Animal and General Project Forms.

For example, the juniors have space for 5 goals; the intermediates have space for 10 goals; and seniors have space for 15.  This does not mean that seniors must have 15 goals, but they should be thinking about doing more around citizenship and leadership than the youngest members.

Face to face training will be provided next spring.  Once the dates are set, they will be announced here in the Record Book Roundup.  Be sure to check this section of the newsletter each month.
