Barber County Fair 100th Celebration & Updates

The 100th Barber County Fair will take place July 22-25, 2021.  The Fair Board is planning for it to be a great celebration of the traditions that make a County Fair.

Current plans include 4-H exhibits and Open Class exhibits.  Due to only having a 4-H Showcase in 2020, Open Class exhibitors will be allowed to bring items made since the 2019 County Fair.  However, the limit of 1 entry per class in Open Class will remain in place.

Livestock Overweight Animal Change

There have been a couple changes to the Barber County Fair book since printing.  (This update was mailed to members it effects with preentry packets.)

  1. For the 2021 Fair, the maximum weight limits for beef, swine, sheep, and meat goats have been waived for the 4-H/FFA classes. This means that an overweight animal can be eligible for the grand drive in 2021.
  2. The minimum weight for swine is now 200 lbs. (instead of 220 lbs.)

The weight limits still apply for floor animals (sheep, meat goats, and swine). The floor buyer has the option to decline an underweight or overweight animal.

Beef 1000 – 1500 lbs. (There is not a floor buyer for beef)

Swine 200 – 290 lbs.

Sheep 90 – 170 lbs.

Meat Goats 60 – 110 lbs.

Art & Craft Classes Change

To keep current with the Kansas State Fair, Arts & Crafts will now have only 5 classes.  However, we will seperate by age groups Junior, Intermediate, and Senior.  Selecting a Champion and Reserve Champion from each age group to be considered for the Grand and Reserve Grand Champion.  In 4-H Arts & Crafts, members may bring multiple items in each class.

This will be very important in 2022 because only 1 entry per class will be allowed to be entered in the State Fair.  In 2021, we are able to take 5 entries to the State Fair.

Club Displays

4-H Council decided that a poster (or 2) from each club about the history, current activities, and more would be an interesteing way to help celebrate the 100th Fair.  These posters will be hung in the poster area.  If you prefer a table top display board, tables will be made available.
